I’m writing this blog to express my thoughts, views and comments about one of best sitcoms of all time; Seinfeld.
Sure, I know there were great shows that flooded the airways over the decades. Like the one about a family that is modern, another about a Queen’s bigot, an owner of a dry cleaner, a long Island sportswriter, a doctor and lawyer living in Brooklyn, even a family from Quahog, Rhode Island. Let’s also not forget about the series that had a mom with blue hair, another one with a story about a lovely lady, and yep, one with a brother who was Dynomite. There were situations about friends living in a Village and professors at tech college. Shows about offices, cabbies, junk yards, newsrooms and even a bar or two were created. In fact, one was about a psychiatrist talk show host that used to hang out in a bar. Others about doctors, hospitals, a war zone, boarding school, fifties malt shop, a deserted island, and of course, a Jeannie and an astronaut. I can go on, but you get the picture.
Seinfeld is touted as the show about nothing. While that may be true, at the same time you can also say it’s a show about everything. It’s about friendship, family relationships, dealing with daily struggles and connecting and interacting with the community. This blog will go in depth with these aspects of the Seinfeld universe. I want it to reflect my opinions about their situations, almost as if I am observing them as a neighbor, co-worker or a store owner walking the streets of the Upper West Side. Basically, anyone who might have crossed paths with these characters. I also want to share my thoughts on similar occasions that may have occurred in my life that mirrored theirs. Granted however, it will probably be things that happened to me when I was 12 but as Jerry once said to George, “We’re like children, we’re not men”. Even Elaine once said, “I’m not a woman, I’m a child”.
This portion of the site is the only place I will talk about myself or the show as a show. I want to keep this blog character driven and will write about the crew’s mishaps and hijinks that occurred within those 9 years. I will also keep the integrity of the show intact. I do not want this site to go off tangent, like a fanfiction site may do. Jerry will not fight Superman, Kramer will not join the NYFD, George will NOT become an architect and Elaine will not have Bubble boy’s baby. The show is the show. My take is more of an observer. Like a person that found one of their Journals or was stuck with them on an elevator, train or Chinese Restaurant. Sure, I too will use my imagination and guess what was really meant by their thoughts or actions, but it will be considered my observations, kind of like Jerry’s act.
As far as referencing the show, on occasion, I will add (S1:E1) in a post to guide a reader to the approximate episode. I will only use the character names and not sway from their roles in the show. I will also have to stress that this is a fan site so there may be times what I write might be considered spoilers, however if you are a fan, you will not have a problem. If you are a lover of the show, knowing what happens will never ruin it for you. I can watch an episode 100 times and enjoy it just the same.
I hope you enjoy this blog and please pass it along to everyone you know that loves Seinfeld. In fact, send to people that had never seen the show (blasphemy, I know). Maybe we will get some converts, albeit decades later.
